Victor Hayes

Victor "Vic" Hayes, a distinguished professor and passionate youth football coach, passed away on November 5, 2024, at the age of 65 in New York City. Born on April 22, 1959, in Queens, Jim was known for his dedication to education and his unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds, both in the classroom and on the football field. Vic earned his bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of New York at Albany and went on to obtain a master’s degree in Sports Management from Columbia University. He dedicated over 30 years of his life to teaching at a local high school in Manhattan, where he inspired countless students with his engaging teaching style and passion for history. Vic believed in the power of education to transform lives and was always available for his students, whether they needed academic help or personal guidance. In addition to his teaching career, Vic was a beloved youth football coach for the Manhattan Youth Football League. His love for the sport was matched only by his desire to instill values of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship in the young athletes he coached. Known for his motivational speeches and ability to connect with kids, Jim created a supportive environment that encouraged players to strive for excellence both on and off the field. Vic was a lifelong resident of New York City, and he cherished the diverse culture and vibrancy of the city. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants and could often be found cheering for his team alongside friends and family on Sundays. A devoted family man, Jim enjoyed spending his weekends with his wife, Laura, and their three children, often taking trips to local parks or attending their kids’ sporting events. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Laura; his children, Emily, Daniel, and Samantha; his brother, Michael; and his sister, Anne. Vic was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Margaret Hayes. A memorial service celebrating Vic's life and contributions to the community was held on November 12, 2024, at the St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan. Victor Hayes legacy of kindness, mentorship, and passion for education and sports will live on in the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
