BIOGRAPHY
John Morgenstern Sr. was born and raised in New York, where he spent his early years in Brooklyn. Growing up in the heart of the city, he was the beloved brother to three sisters, forming a close-knit family bond that would last throughout his life. His upbringing in Brooklyn laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial spirit, which would define his career in later years.
In his younger days, John served with distinction in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His bravery and dedication to his country earned him the prestigious Purple Heart, a testament to the sacrifices he made for his fellow Americans after being injured in combat, surviving a bombing of his vehicle. John’s time in the military had a profound impact on him, shaping the values of resilience, loyalty, and service that would guide him throughout his life.
After returning home from the war, John embarked on a journey of entrepreneurship. His first venture was a beloved neighborhood bar, Peter’s Bar, located in the Cypress Hills section of East New York, Brooklyn. The bar became a local institution, where friends, family and strangers alike gathered for good company and lively conversation. John's larger-than-life personality made him a cherished figure in the community, always ready with a joke or a smile to brighten the room.
Not content to rest on his laurels, John’s entrepreneurial drive led him to own several other successful businesses. In Howard Beach, Queens, he opened a beauty salon called Carl Jason, known for its top-notch services and welcoming atmosphere. He also ventured into the retail world, owning Pop Pop Candy Store in Valley Stream, NY, where he brought joy to countless children with its sweets and treats. His business acumen was further displayed through his company, The Crew, based in Long Island, NY. John's ability to diversify and thrive in various industries showcased his versatility and ambition.
Outside of his business endeavors, John was an avid motorcyclist, spending much of his free time riding his Harley Davidson. The open road was a place where he felt truly free, enjoying the wind in his hair and the thrill of the ride. Yet, despite his love for adventure, family was always at the center of John’s world. He treasured the time spent with his relatives, and his warmth and humor made him the life of every family gathering.
John’s legacy lives on through his beloved children and grandchildren his sister, nieces, nephews, and friends, who continue to miss him dearly. He is remembered for his big heart, his unwavering love for his country, and his vibrant personality that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. John's smile had the power to light up any room, and his infectious energy brought joy to countless lives. As a United States veteran, a beloved family member, and a successful entrepreneur, John Morgenstern made a mark on the world that will not soon be forgotten.
John passed away, leaving behind a life full of stories, laughter, and love. He was laid to rest at Calverton Cemetery in Suffolk County, NY, where he is honored alongside other veterans. His family takes comfort in knowing that he served his country with honor and lived a life full of purpose.
